Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are – in theory – the best phones Apple has introduced to date. Both feature big, pretty OLED displays, Apple’s A12 Bionic processor, large storage capacity, great cameras, and more. However, they are far from perfect. Although the vast majority have no problems, some have already reported certain things that do not quite work well. For the same reason, we have decided to elaborate this guide with the most common iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max problems, as well as their possible solutions. It is not a definitive list, and we will most likely update it over the course of the weeks. PROBLEM: IPHONE XS WON’T CHARGE WELL

Some people have reported that when they connect their iPhone XS and XS Max with a Lightning cable to a power source, the phone doesn’t charge as it should. The problem seems to manifest itself in different ways. With some phones, the charging process failed to start when the phone was in Sleep Mode, while others began charging only when the owner touched the screen.

Unfortunately, there is still no real solution. For now, just try to determine in which situation your phone charges or not. Some require you to ‘wake them up’ first, so for now you’ll have to do that every time you want to load it, while we wait for apple’s updates on a possible software update or recovery program. Reports indicate that a fix to the issue will appear in iOS 12.1, which will be released to the public in the coming weeks. PROBLEM: DATA RATE AND WI-FI IS SLOW

Some people have found that their data and Wi-Fi speeds are much slower than expected on the iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, as explained in this Apple forum post. Luckily, there is a relatively easy solution.

Go to Settings> General> Reset> Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. You’ll have to re-enter your Wi-Fi password, but it’s worth it if you can regain those maximum speeds. PROBLEM: RECEPTION IS WORSE THAN WITH AN OLD PHONE

Some people have reported that they are getting a worse reception on their new iPhone XS or XS Max than on an older device. In particular, it seems that Verizon users are particularly experiencing the problem. One theory suggests apple’s shift from Qualcomm to Intel modems is to blame, with others saying it may have something to do with the devices’ antenna design.

Right now, there’s no fix for this issue, though it’s possible that Apple will release an update to help. For now, you have no choice but to arm yourself with patience and deal with reception problems. PROBLEM: CAMERA EFFECTS ARE VERY AGGRESSIVE

This is a less serious ‘problem’, but it seems that some people, like those in this Reddit thread, are bothered enough to complain. The iPhone XS is much more ‘aggressive’ than previous iPhones to soften the skin (and make spots or wrinkles disappear) when taking photos with the selfie camera, which gives an artificial effect to the images.

Unfortunately, this seems to be due to how the new camera works and the fact that Apple wants it to be stronger with the effects, so we don’t expect to see any real fixes in the near future, but a software update could allow you to tone it down so you don’t look like a wax doll.

Solution:Turning off Smart HDR may reduce the effects on the main camera (which otherwise won’t affect the front camera). You can always try one of the camera apps for iPhone, and see if you can modify (and improve) the results.

Otherwise, and to avoid problems with cracked screens or scratched frames while trying to fix your phone’s problems, check out the best cases for the iPhone XS or for the iPhone XS Max. After all, you paid for them a fortune.
